X-rays are a useful, non-invasive tool for diagnosing pets.

Cameron Veterinary Hospital is equipped with digital pet X-ray technology. Our veterinarians use radiographs (X-rays) to monitor medical conditions in cats and dogs. X-rays are fast and, most importantly, give us crucial insight into your pet’s bones, joints, and even some organs. If your pet is limping or displaying unexplained symptoms, digital X-rays may reveal answers.

How Do Veterinary X-rays Work?

Our digital X-ray system captures high-resolution images in seconds using low levels of radiation. These images can be enhanced, shared, and stored digitally—making diagnostics more efficient and allowing for quick comparisons over time. Our veterinarians will review the results with you to discuss a diagnosis. If needed, very complex results can be sent to a certified veterinary radiologist for analysis.

X-ray FAQs

Yes, X-rays are safe for cats and dogs. The amount of radiation used is minimal and considered safe for pets. We take all necessary safety precautions for your pet and our staff during the imaging process.

In most cases, sedation is not needed for your pet. However, if your companion cannot remain still due to anxiety or pain, we may recommend light sedation for their comfort and safety. You will be informed if your pet requires sedation.

For safety reasons, pet owners are not allowed in the X-ray room while imaging is being performed. Our trained staff will make sure your pet is secure throughout the procedure.

Limping can be caused by a variety of issues, from soft-tissue strain to fractures or arthritis. If your pet is experiencing a persistent limp, schedule an appointment with us. The veterinarian will perform a physical exam and suggest X-rays if needed.

In most cases, we review the images immediately and discuss the findings with you during your visit. If additional review with a board-certified radiologist is needed, a member of our staff will call you as soon as we are sent the results.
