Whether you’re starting with a new puppy or kitten or maintaining care for an adult pet, our team is here to ensure they’re on the right vaccine schedule for a healthy life.

Why Do Vaccines Matter for Pets?

Dog vaccines and cat vaccines guard against a range of serious conditions—some of which can be fatal or contagious to other animals and even humans. Vaccinating your pet is one of the most responsible and caring things you can do as a pet owner. Vaccinations should begin when your pet is a puppy or kitten and continue regularly throughout their life. Early vaccines protect developing immune systems, while boosters keep that protection strong year after year.

Vaccines are generally divided into two categories for pets: core and non-core. Core vaccines are recommended for all pets due to the severity, prevalence, or contagious nature of the diseases they prevent. Non-core vaccines are recommended by our veterinarians based on lifestyle and individual risk factors. We will discuss which immunizations are right for your pet.

Vaccination
FAQs

Yes. Vaccines are thoroughly tested and monitored for safety. Most pets experience no side effects, though mild fatigue or soreness may occur for a day or two. Severe reactions are extremely rare.

All dogs over four months of age must be vaccinated against rabies in the state of California. The rabies vaccine is strongly recommended for cats as well—even those who live indoors. It is a requirement for felines in certain other states.

Initial vaccines are typically given in a series during puppyhood or kittenhood. After that, booster schedules vary. Most are given annually, but some may be given every three years. Our staff will advise you during your pet’s wellness exam.

Even indoor pets can be exposed to viruses and parasites, especially if they escape outside, come in contact with outdoor animals (or humans), or visit grooming or boarding facilities. Think of core vaccines as a safety precaution for your pet.

If your pet’s vaccine records are unavailable or incomplete, our veterinarians may recommend starting a vaccine series of several boosters or conducting titers (blood tests) to assess immunity levels.
