Pet Ultrasound and Echocardiogram

Imaging can reveal what is happening inside your pet’s body.
At Cameron Veterinary Hospital, we offer advanced imaging services—including pet ultrasound and pet echocardiogram—for diagnostics and monitoring. Non-invasive ultrasound allows for visualizing your pet’s internal organs and heart in real time, supporting early diagnosis and personalized treatment planning.
Veterinary Ultrasound Technology
Ultrasound uses sound waves to create real-time images of your pet’s internal organs. It’s most commonly used to evaluate the abdomen and chest—including the liver, kidneys, bladder, stomach, intestines, and reproductive organs. If your companion is experiencing vomiting, changes in appetite, bloating, or abnormal lab results, a pet ultrasound may be used to identify the issue without the need for surgery or more invasive testing. Our veterinarians will always begin with a physical exam and let you know if they believe an ultrasound is needed.

Visualizing the Heart with Pet Echocardiograms
An echocardiogram or “echo” is an ultrasound of the heart. Veterinary echocardiograms show us how the heart muscle and valves are functioning and can help detect heart murmurs, fluid buildup, congenital heart defects, and other cardiac concerns. Pets may be referred for an echocardiogram if they have abnormal heart sounds, signs of heart disease (like coughing, lethargy, or exercise intolerance), or before certain types of anesthesia or treatment. This detailed ECG scan will be used to assess heart structure and blood flow in real time.

FAQs
Yes, you can schedule a pet pregnancy check with us. Ultrasound is a safe and effective way to confirm pregnancy in dogs and cats and monitor fetal development during gestation.
We do not. Ultrasounds and echocardiograms must be scheduled in advance, so please give us a call to ask about the soonest available appointment.
Absolutely. Ultrasounds and echocardiograms are non-invasive and painless. They do not even use radiation like X-rays. Most pets do not require sedation unless they are very anxious or uncomfortable.
Yes, a small area of fur will be shaved for contact between the ultrasound (or echo) probe and your pet’s skin. This process produces the clearest imaging possible.
We may ask you to withhold food from your pet for several hours prior to the exam to improve image quality, especially for abdominal ultrasounds. Pet owners will get all necessary information prior to the appointment.
